We’re going back to where it all started.

The next Paranormal Activity movie takes place in the same house as the original film, as revealed during Blumhouse’s New York Comic Con panel tonight.

I can also confirm this. I’d been sitting on that detail and was planning to report it, so yes, I’m a little annoyed they beat me to it at the panel. But there it is: we’re heading back into that house.

That’s a pretty big connection to Oren Peli’s original, which turned a couple’s attempts to document a haunting into one of horror’s biggest success stories. So much of that movie’s terror came from getting familiar with the bedroom, the hallway, and the things that started happening while the camera kept rolling. Returning to that setting gives longtime fans plenty to think about.

It doesn’t, by itself, tell us who will be living there or how the new story connects to Katie and Micah. But it’s a much more specific indication of where this movie is heading than we’ve had until now.

Ian Tuason (undertone) directs the eighth installment, which Paramount has scheduled for May 21, 2027.

James Wan, Jason Blum, and Peli are producing, with Paramount co-producing and co-financing alongside Blumhouse Atomic Monster.

The announced cast includes Chase Yi, Sonia Mena, and Maya da Costa, whose involvement we covered earlier this year.

The original Paranormal Activity was initially shot for just $15,000 before additional investment and its eventual theatrical release. It went on to earn approximately $194 million worldwide, launching a franchise whose first seven films collectively grossed around $900 million globally.

Now the next chapter is taking us back to its most familiar address. I’m curious to see what Tuason does with a house horror fans already know so well.
