Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma begins its limited theatrical release through MUBI this week before expanding over the next two weeks, and the film is leaning hard into its retro slasher roots with some pretty damn cool merchandise.
Jane Schoenbrun’s (I Saw the TV Glow) queer spin on the ’80s slasher stars Hannah Einbinder and Gillian Anderson, centering on a young filmmaker tasked with resurrecting the fictional Camp Miasma slasher franchise. Naturally, the marketing is treating that fictional franchise like it actually existed.
MUBI has teamed with Mutant for an entire collection of Camp Miasma merchandise that looks like it could have been pulled straight out of an old video store.
There’s a Camp Miasmathon T-shirt for $40, a Camp Miasma crew hat for $40, and a $60 reproduction poster, but the coolest stuff is easily the faux archival material. Mutant is selling a 12-card Camp Miasma trading card set for $10, packaged in foil like an old-school pack of movie cards, along with a $50 collection of VHS sleeves representing the fictional movies in the Camp Miasma franchise. All are currently up for preorder with an estimated October release.
It’s a fun way to extend the movie’s entire conceit into the real world, essentially creating physical artifacts from a slasher franchise that never actually existed.
You can check out the entire Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma collection at Mutant.
