Ack! Ack! Tim Burton‘s sci-fi comedy, Mars Attacks!, is one of those films that always amazes me it actually exists. An alien invasion film from weirdo genius Burton, featuring a mind-blowing cast, a spaceship full of oddball humor and some of the most psychotically sadistic outer space villains to ever appear on screen. Now, it’ll all look even better, as IGN reports that a 4K release is coming our way to celebrate the film’s 30th anniversary!

For those yet to experience the outrageous spoof of invaders from beyond movies, Mars Attacks! is an adaptation of the Topps trading card line and follows an ensemble cast as they encounter mischievous aliens that land on Earth with the intent of destroying everything and everyone in sight.

The absolutely stacked cast includes Jack Nicholson (playing dual roles), Glenn Close, Annette BeningPierce Brosnan, Sarah Jessica Parker, Martin Short, Michael J. Fox, Natalie Portman, Rod Steiger, Danny DeVito, Jim Brown, Lukas Haas, Sylvia Sidney, Lisa Marie, and singer Tom Jones as himself.

I can’t express enough how much I adore this movie. Not only is the cult film incredibly entertaining, but it harkens back to when Hollywood was willing to spend big on riskier, out of this world projects. I consider the 90s to be the golden age of the blockbuster, and Mars Attacks! is a big-brained alien example of why.

Special Features Include:

  • Looking Back on Mars Attacks! – Filmmakers swap stories about working with Tim Burton on one of the 1990s’ wackiest alien-invasion films.
  • Ack! Ack! Aesthetic – Filmmakers explore the distinctive style of Mars Attacks! and reveal how then-cutting-edge CGI shaped its iconic look.

Mars Attacks! lands on 4K Ultra HD and on 4K UHD Blu-ray Disc on August 11th. Both the standard version and the limited edition steelbook are available to pre-order through Amazon now.

Check out the clip below posted by IGN for a look at some of the BTS footage on the release.
