“UFOs On The Moon?”
Over a four-year period (1962-1966), multiple United States astronauts reported unidentifiable objects during their space missions. From Mercury Seven, to Gemini Ten, the questions are still the same. If these sightings are not that of space debris, then what are they, and where do they come from? Did the crew of Apollo 11 find more on the moon than what they reported?
“Panic Over Mexico”
In March 1968, two ships, including the tanker Alfa-Mex II, reported fireballs in the sky off the coast of Veracruz, Mexico. Soon after, the people of Mexico began seeing strange lights over their city. What were these objects? More information would make it onto the pages of the Condon Report.
“The UFOs Invade Our Seas!”
There are as many UFO reports filed in regard to the world’s oceans as those of the skies above. Sightings of USO, or Unidentified Submarine Objects (per this comic book), have steadily increased since 1967. In the case of Shag Harbor, Nova Scotia – Canada, a major incident would spark a large flap of encounters above and below the waterline.
“Your Future”
There are two career opportunities in high demand this year. Say hello to the Office Machine Operator and field Geologist! One will take you deep into the world of electronic memory storage, key punch machines, and the advanced Pascal programming language. Can you handle making $80 a week?!
If you’re more of an outdoor, sciency guy, the field of geology has grown by leaps and bounds. Be the one who finds the next deposit of world-saving oil. You may be the one called to dig massive underground tunnels for the U.S. Military. Hey, those aren’t aliens under there! Does a whopping $10,000 a year salary put the wind in your sail? The future looks bright!
“The Whaling Bark”
In this edition of the Keys of Knowledge, Western Publishing gives our children an elevator-pitch on 19th century whaling. From ship to harpoon, and all the sailors who hunted those noble beasts, this is a must-read for any animal activist. How were we supposed to get our lamp oil and perfume?
“Stamp And Coin – Collector’s Corner”
This is a nice one-page informational piece written by George Allard on stamp collecting.
“The UFOs Over Russia”
The American skies are not the only region of Earth with unexplained phenomena. Russia has maintained a steady stream of reports dealing with Flying Saucers and the aliens who occupy them. From the 1908 Tungusta Blast, which leveled a huge section of the Siberia forest, to the cigar-shaped craft which destroyed a military manufacturing plant producing tanks, there seems to be a method to these visitations.
“Snowmen From The Sky”
Over the past century, sightings of both Flying Saucers and hairy Cryptids have been reported in correlation with each other. Are the beasts known as Bigfoot, Yeti, and the Abominable Snowman linked to the mysterious UFO phenomenon? Gold Key provides several stories here that could make one draw that conclusion.
Review
There is a two-year gap between issue one of UFO Flying Saucers and this continuation in the series. What issue two lacks in detail, it surely makes up for in the sheer volume of reports presented. There are several well known UFO cases, including the Shag Harbor incident, the Tunguska Blast over Siberia, and some of which have been discredited or debunked by the year 2026.
No matter. If you’re a UFO buff like me, then you will see the pure entertainment value of this comic book. My only criticism is the need for more information. I would rather read fewer reports with more substance. I give issue two of UFO Flying Saucers three out of five stars.
