Five Nights at Freddy's

Today, I sit down with the musical icons behind some of the most memorable horror scores of the past decade. The Newton Brothers (Taylor Newton Stewart and John Andrew Grush) are hot off the success of providing the score to Blumhouse’s superhit Five Nights at Freddy’s and are now making the rounds for their excellent music on Marvel’s X-Men ’97.

To celebrate the upcoming vinyl release of the Five Nights at Freddy’s score, this dynamic duo talk to me about their process and how their lives have drastically changed since working with horror creator Mike Flanagan. Are you as excited about the Five Nights at Freddy’s vinyl as we are? Pre-orders opened on February 1 on iam8bit, which has partnered with Universal Pictures and Blumhouse to bring the record to horror lovers. Find out how to get your copy below.

The vinyl soundtrack will be available for $31.99 with four collectible character variants of the record’s cover art — every order having a random chance of receiving either the Freddy, Bonnie, Chica or Foxy cover. A bundle that guarantees all four covers will also be available. Additionally, the vinyl features specially hand-curated extras, including glow-in-the-dark detailing.

The Five Nights at Freddy’s motion picture soundtrack will also be available in CD and cassette formats from iam8bit. All formats will include 24 haunting tracks from the movie’s enigmatic score by The Newton Brothers, known for their work on horror projects such as Oculus, Doctor Sleep and The Grudge. From the opening title track, they hypnotize us with the haunting vocals of a children’s choir, cut with the melodies of nursery rhyme horrorshow. It’s a chilling hors d’oeuvre, leading into a pulsing, synthy moody main course that is both a ’90s throwback and freshly sinister.

About the film:

Five Nights at Freddy’s follows Mike (Josh Hutcherson; UltramanThe Hunger Games franchise) a troubled young man caring for his 10-year-old sister Abby (Piper Rubio; Holly & Ivy, Unstable), and haunted by the unsolved disappearance of his younger brother more than a decade before.

Recently fired and desperate for work so that he can keep custody of Abby, Mike agrees to take a position as a night security guard at an abandoned theme restaurant: Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria. But Mike soon discovers that nothing at Freddy’s is what it seems. With the aid of Vanessa, a local police officer (Elizabeth Lail; You, Mack & Rita), Mike’s nights at Freddy’s will lead him into unexplainable encounters with the supernatural and drag him into the black heart of an unspeakable nightmare.
