Paris Jackson has reflected on perforating her septum through snorting drugs, saying she could see “straight through” her nose.

The singer and actor, who is the daughter of Michael Jackson, is preparing to release her second studio album ‘Happiest Day Of My Life’ on Friday (August 21), which she has made in collaboration with Linda Perry.

Ahead of the release, she has given an interview on the On Purpose With Jay Shetty podcast, where she opened up about her addiction and recovery.

“I blew a hole through my nose, which is public knowledge,” she said. “It’s not deviated, it’s perforated, so it whistles. You can see straight through my nose.”

She described the moment she first realised it had happened, saying she “freaked out”, adding: “There’s blood everywhere. I looked in my, you know, mirror, and I saw it.”

Jackson said she visited a doctor, who told her that it could be repaired but that continuing to take drugs could cause the same damage again. “There’s only so may reconstructive surgeries we can do,” she recalled the doctor saying. “So if you’re not done [doing drugs], I wouldn’t bother yet.

A perforated septum is a hole in the cartilage separating the nostrils. According to the NHS, snorting cocaine can cause holes in the septum by damaging its blood supply.

Jackson first revealed that she had done the damage last November, when she shone a light through the hole in a TikTok video and said it was “from what you think it’s from”, adding: “Don’t do drugs, kids”.

She later marked six years of sobriety in January, telling others experiencing mental health struggles that they were “not alone”.

‘Happiest Day Of My Life’ is her first LP since her 2020 debut ‘Wilted’, which NME awarded three stars, noting: “‘Wilted’ feels caught between the twee folksy pop of Paris Jackson’s previous releases with The Soundflowers and the bewildering alt-rock icon she may become. As a musical introduction, it’s enthralling, inconsistent and, at times, excellent. Ultimately, this is a glimpse of the artist that Jackson could be.”

She has also recently said she no longer feels obliged to post public tributes to her late father, because doing so could become “performative”. “I’m in a very beautiful spot with my dad, and I love that, and it’s no one else’s business,” she said. “I don’t have to share that with anybody.”

In May, she also secured a major win in her legal battle regarding her late father’s finances, when it was ruled that $625,000 would be returned to the estate.
