Bassist Mickey Madden is taking a “leave of absence” from Maroon 5 following his arrest last month on a charge of intimate partner violence, People reports. “I have some things that I need to deal with and address right now and so I have decided to take a leave of absence from Maroon 5 for the foreseeable future,” Madden said in a statement to People. “During this time, I do not want to be a distraction to my bandmates. I wish them the absolute best.”

Pitchfork has reached out to representatives for Maroon 5.

Madden was arrested on June 28 on the felony charge under California’s 273.5(a) penal code, which cites anyone who inflicts an injury that leaves a spouse or cohabitant “in a traumatic condition,” and was released on the same day after posting bail. “We are deeply devastated by this disappointing news,” a representative for Maroon 5 said in a statement at the time. “As we learn more, we are looking at this very seriously. For now, we are allowing all of the individuals involved the space to work things through.”
