The war ended. The horror did not.
Dread Central can exclusively report that Eddie McClintock (Warehouse 13), Jamie Bernadette (pictured above in I Spit on Your Grave: Deja Vu), Lexy Panterra (Nightmare Cinema), and Heath Adam Cates (Pulse) have joined the cast of the psychological horror film, AREA 1. And it sounds intense.
Bernadette and Sydney Carvill (Squealer) lead the film as Emma and Hannah, sisters whose memorial road trip across the American Southwest takes a terrifying turn after a seemingly harmless stop in rural New Mexico.
The sisters and their friends awaken inside a clandestine medical facility hidden deep beneath the desert, where their identities have been stripped away and replaced by numbers. Cut off from the outside world and unsure why they were chosen, they must uncover the purpose of the facility and find a way out before their numbers are called.
Saw meets Cube, anyone?
The film hails from Emmy®-winning filmmaker Rich Varville.
I’ve been a fan of Bernadette’s for a while now after her badass performance in I Spit on Your Grave: Deja Vu. So, consider me curious about this one.

McClintock plays Alpha, the shadowy figure who controls the operation and decides who leaves AREA 1 alive. Panterra plays Tori, one of the women abducted alongside the sisters, while Cates portrays Charlie, a menacing operative working within the facility.
The ensemble also includes Melissa Browne as Jade, Phoenix Sol Zito as Echo, an unpredictable operative inside the facility, Jessie Everest as Delta, Lou Slocum as Bravo, the physician overseeing the facility’s medical operation, and Grace Lynn as the mysterious #498. Jason Smith and Drew Lopez also join the cast.
“AREA 1 is ultimately about two sisters forced into an impossible situation and what they are willing to do for each other when survival is no longer guaranteed,” said Varville. “We wanted actors who could ground the film emotionally while still inhabiting this very dark, unsettling world. Jamie and Sydney give us that center, while Eddie, Lexy, Heath and the rest of our ensemble each bring something completely different to it.”
Varville will direct from his original screenplay and serves as the film’s producer. AREA 1 is produced through RSVP FILMS LLC and CANFIELD AVENUE PICTURES and marks the debut feature from Varville’s newly launched HOLLYWEIRD PICTURES™, a genre banner dedicated to thriller, horror and the strange.
Principal photography on AREA 1 will begin in November in southern New Mexico, primarily in and around Las Cruces.
Look for the film to unleash the truth sometime in 2027.
