The door was locked. Anne Harrington is certain of it, and it is cracked open when she gets home. Saban Films has the trailer for Deadbolt out now, ahead of a November 13 release on VOD and digital in the US.

Harrington (Callie Deering) is weighing a run for Congress when she walks into her own house and works out that she is not alone in it. Two intruders are already inside, and the rest of the picture is whether she gets back out of the night. Zac Coleman directs from a script by Dylan Noe, with Adria Dawn, Matt Gorkis, Eric Wolfgang Nelson and Jaslen Gonzalez alongside her. It is billed as a single-location thriller.

One House and Nobody Coming

Locking the whole film inside one address is the oldest discipline in this corner of horror, and it is an unforgiving one. Once the premise is set, the only things left to play are geography and patience: which rooms connect, what the woman in the house knows about them that the men do not, and how long a director can hold a hallway before the audience stops believing in it. The subgenre has a long shelf of films that solved it and a longer one of films that just ran people up and down stairs.

The Congressional Run Is the Interesting Part

The most promising thing in the setup is Harrington’s politics. A home invasion story usually hands its victim nothing but the house and a bad night; giving her a public life about to get more public raises the question of whether the two men inside picked the address at random. The official synopsis does not say either way, which is the right amount to withhold.

November 13, at Home

Saban Films releases Deadbolt to VOD and digital platforms on November 13, with no UK or Ireland date announced. Anyone who wants to work through the canon first can start with the home invasion collection the Criterion Channel put up this month.
