Six new movies, four of them Shudder Originals, and a Ghoul Log that has picked up a curse. Shudder’s October schedule front-loads the month hard: The Descent, Insidious, Session 9, Lords of Salem and both Lake Mungo films all arrive on October 1, joining what is already sitting on the service. The same day, the new Curse of the Ghoul Logs starts burning.
The Ghoul Log Finally Gets More Than One Pumpkin
The Ghoul Log is the strangest thing Shudder does: an hour of a candlelit jack-o-lantern, no plot, no people, built to run in the corner of a Halloween party while everyone talks over it. The service has handed the format to guest designers before, most memorably when Michael Dougherty built a Trick ’r Treat edition around Sam. Curse of the Ghoul Logs runs an hour, comes from the crew behind Hallowarrior, and puts more than one jack-o-lantern on screen for the first time since the thing existed.
Five Straight Fridays of Premieres
Every Friday in October carries something new. Infirmary lands October 2, V/H/S/MIXTAPE on October 9, Hallowarrior on October 16 and The Cycle on October 23. Then Big Baby on October 30 and Hunting Matthew Nichols on October 31, both labeled Shudder Exclusives rather than Originals, which in practice means Shudder has them and did not make them.
Infirmary is the one to take first. Nicholas Pineda shot it on bodycams, which is the found-footage wrinkle nobody had properly worked until police video became the most-watched format of moving image on earth. V/H/S/MIXTAPE plays Beyond Fest before it reaches the service, and it has GWAR in it, which is either the best or the worst decision the franchise has ever made.
Hallowarrior hands Milly Shapiro a costume and one very long night, and its crew also built this year’s Ghoul Log, so the same people are responsible for the loudest hour and the quietest hour on Shudder’s October calendar. The Cycle belongs to Jordan Downey, with Deborah Ann Woll and Jeffrey Donovan, and Downey told iHorror that the morgue scene rattled him more than the wolf did.
Joe Bob Gets the Loudest Night
Joe Bob’s Halloween House Party goes out live at 9 p.m. ET on Friday, October 23, the same night The Cycle premieres, which makes that the busiest evening of the month by a distance. The 2026 FANGORIA Chainsaw Awards follow live on Sunday, October 25 at 9 p.m. ET, and season seven of The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula begins October 27. All of it sits inside Season of Screams, the four-month block Shudder is running from September 1 through December 31.
The deepest part of the month is still its first day. Run Lake Mungo straight into Lake Mungo Revisited, Michael Kratochvil’s retrospective documentary about how Joel Anderson built the 2008 film, and you get the rare double bill where the making-of leaves the movie stranger than it found it.
