With the Pokémon franchise celebrating its 30th anniversary, now is the perfect time to get stuck into the monster-catching genre that has been one of the cornerstones of gaming for decades. Released back in 2024, Dokimon Quest, which you can probably already expect from the title alone, is a Pokémon dupe which will see you capture and train 140+ Dokimon across 15+ towns. In this game, described as “a monster-taming RPG meets GBC-era nostalgia”, players will also need to set out on a journey to uncover the mystery behind their missing childhood friend who was last seen in the Xelos region.
Developed by Yanako RPGs, Dokimon Quest currently sits at a ‘Mostly Positive’ rating on Steam, so when it comes to Pokémon dupes, this is not one to ignore, especially as players can look forward to 20+ retro color palettes, nine playable characters to choose from, world battles, and up to four save files.

In Dokimon Quest, you will need to battle Rangers if you wish to get stronger and take down the evil corporations who stand in your way and threaten the peace. Along the way, you can collect up to 140 original monsters, explore a quest that takes you across 15+ towns, uncover caves, shrines and mountains, and get stuck into a story-mode that offers up to 15-20 hours of exciting content. Not only that, but tracking down rare monsters could see you unlock some post-game content. Oh, and yes, there is fishing too.
As mentioned, Dokimon Quest has its fair share of fans, with Steam being home to a myriad of positive reviews. “This is a very fun and cheeky retro creature cap RPG,” one example reads. “Very standard and entertaining, of course, everyone has their own cup of tea, but after beating the game for what it is, it’s a pretty solid game.”
Another said, “Reminds me of Pokémon. Literally almost the exact game with some minor changes as to not fully copy it. It’s a burst of nostalgia, it’s fun, and reminds me of when I was a kid playing on the GBC.”
