Stephen King and Sam Raimi are finally joining forces.
According to an exclusive report from The InSneider, Adam B. Stein and Zach Lipovsky, the filmmaking duo behind this smash hit Final Destination: Bloodlines, have been tapped to direct Desperation for Searchlight Pictures.
If the report is accurate, the project marks the first collaboration between two of horror’s most influential names: Stephen King (The Shining, It, Misery) and Sam Raimi (The Evil Dead, Drag Me to Hell, Send Help).
The adaptation is based on King’s 1996 novel, which “follows the residents of the seemingly deserted Nevada mining town of Desperation after they’re captured by a sinister sheriff possessed by an ancient supernatural evil lurking beneath the desert.”
Few details beyond the creative team have been revealed, and neither Searchlight nor those involved have officially confirmed the report.
Still, it’s hard not to get excited by the prospect of Stephen King and Sam Raimi finally working together. That’s a pairing horror fans have waited decades to see, and if Stein and Lipovsky can bring the same energy they injected into Final Destination: Bloodlines, Desperation could quickly become one of the genre’s most anticipated upcoming films.
