“Mother Of Evil – Part 09”

The Demon Queen has vanquished Blade with an unsuspecting ruse. Now, she holds the only weapon that could have destroyed her. The Lucifer sword, forged in a time before mankind even existed, is now out of play. Turning to the only remaining source capable of standing up to the Adana, Blade returns to the vampire nation of Vampyrsk, and to his old nemesis Dracula.

It’s there that the world’s oldest known vampire lord instructs Blade how to unleash his true vampire abilities. With a new understanding of supernatural combat, the Daywalker travels to the city of angels for a parley. In a plush penthouse high above the skyline of Los Angeles, Blade makes a deal with the only demon with an ego bigger than the Adana. Santana gives Eric Brooks the secret location to the ancient archives of the Second World.

Will Blade be able to attract all of Hell’s fury in one brash move? Can the spirit form of Draven be any real-world assistance to the task at hand? Why hasn’t the Sorcerer Supreme interjected fully into these matters? Collect the series to find out!

Reviewer Notes

I thought we were close to the end last issue, but the story just keeps going and going with no apparent closure. Is Marvel just dragging this story out to sell more alternative covers? I just don’t get it. It’s cool to see some of the older characters like Santana being brought back into play, but does it justify the emptying of my wallet?

I believe Marvel is spinning this story arc into yet another multibook crossover event called the “Blood Hunt”. I like Blade and his previous books. However, I shan’t be investing anymore into this money sink. For this issue, I give three out of five stars. The art and writing are on par with the rest of Marvel comic books released this year, but compared to the previous iterations of the character, this is my least favorite.
