Considering all the danger and heartbreak that Arthur and the gang experience in Red Dead Redemption 2, it can be difficult for players to stop and appreciate the game’s scenery. Although RDR2‘s map is full of unique places that the player can explore, some of the most interesting locations are actually the various camps the Van der Linde gang calls home. Even though all of these camps have their own dangers for a visitor to worry about, some seem much more desirable than others when thinking about them as potential vacation destinations.

Beaver Hollow is a clear contender for the worst camp in all of Red Dead Redemption 2. Although the camp actually sports natural beauty by way of a lush New Hanover forest, the area’s other residents would make it a hard sell for any travel agent. The violent and erratic Murfree Brood not only call the area around Beaver Hollow home, but also the cave itself, and they would stop at nothing to reclaim it. Vacations are best spent not getting killed by a cruel and murderous group that is out for vengeance, so this camp should be avoided at all costs. Beaver Hollow’s only competition for the bottom spot is with Lakay, a settlement that is rumored to be haunted and surrounded by alligators. Despite these drawbacks, it may have a certain appeal to those interested in the paranormal, giving it a leg up on Beaver Hollow.

Red Dead Redemption 2‘s coldest camp location, Colter, takes the next spot in the rankings. Colter is an abandoned mining town in the mountains of Ambarino and, although frigid and hostile, does feature actual buildings to use as shelter. The area could be perfect for hikers and winter sports enthusiasts, and the remote location might also mean it’s protected from unfriendly gangs. Just ahead of Colter is Shady Belle, which could certainly appeal to those fascinated with history. If living in a ruined colonial mansion is not of interest, the proximity Shady Belle has to Saint Denis could make it perfect for exploring the city.

The Best Camp Locations In Red Dead Redemption 2

Horseshoe Overlook is relatively innocuous when compared to some of RDR2‘s other locations, but it does come with a few perks. The camp located in The Heartlands boasts an absolutely breathtaking view of the surrounding area and is also quite close to the town of Valentine, which could be a major selling point. Depending on the timing of the vacation, an opportunity to go down to the saloon with Arthur and Lenny would be hard to pass up, and would certainly make any vacation worthwhile.

Although there was no fully-fledged camp, Arthur and some of the gang’s time spent in Guarma allows it to take the runner-up spot. Despite it’s tropical climate, exotic animals, and access to the ocean, an ongoing revolution makes it a dangerous location that might make a traveler think twice. While warm weather and a view of the water are hard to pass up, Red Dead Redemption 2‘s best camp offers all of this without having to travel to an island.

Right on a lake in the state of Lemoyne, Clemens Point is a fisherman’s dream, located near Rhodes and even a reasonable distance from Saint Denis itself. Despite it’s danger, Clemens Point’s natural beauty and convenience makes it the best choice for a vacation in Red Dead Redemption 2.

By changing the location of the gang’s camp every chapter, Red Dead Redemption 2 gives players a chance to experience and explore a variety of climates and environments. Considering all of the potential dangers present at each of the RDR2’s camps, its probably best that these locations remain explorable only to Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang, rather than any real life person.
