Animal Crossing: New Horizons player reviews are rather negative on Metacritic.

Over on Metacritic, users are review bombing Animal Crossing: New Horizons by handing the game more zeroes than we can count.

There are some fours and twos thrown in there, but the majority of negative reviews on both pages consist of zeroes (trhanks, Nintendo Life).

Granted, there are 415 positive user reviews, but negative reviews make up a little over half that with 231 submitted.

The main complaint is that the game only allows one island per Switch console. When the game was initially announced, it was revealed you could only have one island per account, but Nintendo updated the usability clause to state that meant one island per Switch console.

Other complaints focus on the multiplayer. According to users, a second player cannot progress in the game beyond the player who created the island. This means the second player is unable to contribute to the museum, place buildings, or obtain better tools until the main player has done so.

If you hit up the Metacritic link, you can read the main complaints with the game, but again, the gist is people are upset over only one island being allowed per console, and co-op being dependent upon how far player one has progressed.

Critic reviews for the game have been positive, and Alex called it “another must-play Switch classic from Nintendo,” and handed it a perfect score.
