HBO has canceled its planned Game of Thrones prequel show, according to Deadline. The show was to star Naomi Watts, and would have been written by Jane Goldman.

Filming of the pilot (by director S.J. Clarkson) is reportedly complete and in the editing process, but Goldman has emailed some of the cast and crew to tell them the project is dead.

In a similar situation, the original Game of Thrones pilot also experienced “massive” problems, leading HBO and showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss to re-cast a key role, re-write the script, and re-shoot “about 90%” of the pilot with a new director, as reported by Vanity Fair.
