Now that Season 3 of House of the Dragon has concluded, Game of Thrones fans have at least another year to debate whether the show’s diversions from George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood have paid off or are a complete disaster. The show has been quite polarizing among longtime A Song of Ice and Fire enthusiasts, with some viewers who are comfortable with the series departing from source material, and book loyalists who scrutinize those changes much more closely.

Wherever you land on that spectrum, House of the Dragon has introduced several unquestionably excellent characters to the small screen, from Season 1’s show-stopping performance from Paddy Considine’s as King Viserys I to Tom Glynn-Carney’s portrayal of Aegon II, which drew particular praise after the Season 3 finale. Another fan-favorite performer, Jefferson Hall, also made a return (yet again), reprising his role as Tyland Lannister.

And thanks to a brand-new update, it looks like fans will be able to get better acquainted with Tyland in a recent Game of Thrones release that ties in beloved characters from across the franchise in a limited-time event (via GoTL).

If you’re a dedicated member of Team Green, Tyland Lannister has your back as a Legendary Champion in this brand-new update for Game of Thrones: Legends, Zynga’s critically acclaimed puzzle RPG that ranks among one of the highest rated mobile games on Google Play and the App Store.

Tyland is a “Green-gem Champion” aligned with both The Greens and The Lannisters, who serves as a battlefield controller, buffing the rest of the team, and connecting the game’s Treasury and Birthright mechanics. He is especially effective in longer fights, including Raids and Alliance Wars. Tyland is equipped with the following skills:

  • Wrestle for Me: Gives an ally Taunt, Birthright, and increased Power; Treasury use allows Tyland to stun the strongest and weakest enemies.
  • Born to Endure: Starts Tyland with Birthright and increased Stamina. Every allied skill use grants the entire team a temporary Defense boost.
  • This Is Why Men Wage War: Adds Treasury Coins with Lannister allies and gives the team an Attack buff with Greens. Treasury withdrawals also make Tyland attack the weakest enemy and grant Birthright to Greens.

In terms of unique features, Tyland starts out combat with Birthright and extra Stamina, will constantly strengthen his team’s defense, and rewards players with teams that generate and spend Treasury Coins, as you’d expect from a Lannister. He can also turn a chosen ally into a durable frontline “carry” by giving them Taunt, Birthright, and increased Power.

Further, he synergizes with some top-rated other Champions, including Sunfyre, who benefits enormously from Tyland’s steady Birthright generation, enabling repeated skill attacks. Cersei Lannister supplies healing and inexpensive Treasury withdrawals, helping trigger Tyland’s effects frequently.

Jefferson Hall actually plays three separate roles in the Game of Thrones universe: Tyland Lannister and his twin brother Jason Lannister in HOTD, as well as Ser Hugh of the Vale in HBO’s original GoT series.

Additionally, the infamous Criston Cole converts Birthright and Tyland’s Defense buffs into durability, while Tyland can give him Taunt to make him an effective tank. The recommended team adds Gregor Clegane and Aegon II Targaryen, who will add further Treasury exploits, Birthright buffs, control, and frontline power.

All told, Tyland Lannister is a top-tier new Champion added to the growing roster of Game of Thrones: Legends that you can utilize strategically if you’re a Green Gem player.
