A 23-year-old true crime enthusiast has been sentenced to life by a South Korean court after stabbing her unsuspecting victim over 100 times.

BBC reports that Jung Yoo-jung spent countless hours watching true crime content. Curious about “trying out a murder,” she used a tutoring app to find a victim willing to meet her at their home. Jung Yoo-jung contacted more than 50 tutors before ultimately selecting her victim. While she was orchestrating the meeting she purported to be the mother of a student looking for an English language instructor.

After scheduling a lesson, Jung Yoo-jung showed up at her victim’s home impersonating a student. She was wearing a school uniform she purchased online.

The perpetrator stabbed her victim repeatedly, continuing to plunge the knife in after the English language tutor had expired. Jung Yoo-jung proceeded to dismember the body of her victim and then took a taxi to a river north of Busan where she discarded the remains.

Her cab driver observed her dumping a bloody suitcase into the river and told authorities what he witnessed.

After her arrest Jung Yoo-jung tried to minimize her involvement, saying she had only moved the remains. Later, she said the murder stemmed from an argument. Eventually, the woman admitted she was driven to kill by a fascination with true crime programming.

Authorities revealed that Jung Yoo-jung spent months researching how to kill and dispose of a body. The court has sentenced her to life in prison. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
