Last year Hasbro revealed the second wave of X-Men ’97 figures to coincide with the upcoming series which is meant to come out sometime this year. The first wave hit the tail end of last year and the second wave is supposed to release this spring. The line-up for the second wave is:
- Cyclops
- Jean Grey
- Nightcrawler
- X-Cutioner
- Magneto
- Goblin Queen
Like the first wave, there is no build-a-figure, as it’s a retro-carded line of figures. The designs of the figures are based on their appearances in the upcoming X-Men ’97 series, a continuation of the iconic X-Men animated series from the early 90’s. The designs are reminiscent of their looks from that series, with a few changes.
The line-up for the first wave was excellent and the second wave looks equally impressive. I think the Cyclops, Jean Grey, Nightcrawler, and Goblin Queen look fantastic! All the head sculpts on them look amazing! I love the newly sculpted forearms and calves with the edges of the gloves and boots sculpted on. I am unfamiliar with X-Cutioner and think the Magneto figure is again undersized. I am very impressed with all the accessories Cyclops, Jean Grey, & Goblin Queen come with. However, I feel that Nightcrawler is missing a sword.
