Arianna Bocco, IFC Films President, is out at the distributor, Deadline has confirmed. Bocco is a 17 year vet at the indie label. She was named President in December 2020 after being the only distributor to give those few theaters bravely scrapping by during Covid, product including Dave Franco’s directorial, The Rental.

Bocco will be replaced in the interim by IFC Head of Acquisitions Scott Shooman. The Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group and CBS Films vet joined last year.

AMC Networks only had this to say, “IFC Films is a vibrant and vital part of our business and we will continue to acquire, produce and distribute films across our IFC Films, Shudder and RLJE Films ecosystems.”

“We have full and total confidence in Scott’s ability to run the business as Interim head and know that our film team will not miss a beat as it proceeds forward with a robust slate of releases and acquisitions,” the company added about Bocco’s sudden, jaw dropping departure.

Before IFC, Bocco worked in indie film packaging at Gersh NYC, as an SVP of Acquisitions at Miramax, and prior to that a VP of Acquisitions at New Line and Fine Line.

Since joining IFC Films in 2006, Bocco has spearheaded all feature pickups at the company. Under her oversee, the label has acquired, produced and distributed hundreds of movies including Richard Linklater’s Boyhood, which was a Golden Globe winner for Best Motion Picture (Drama) and six-time Oscar nominee including Best Picture and winner for Best Supporting Actress; Cristian Mungiu’s Palme d’Or winner 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days; Armando Iannucci’s political satire The Death of Stalin and Oscar-nominated In the Loop; Abbas Kiarostami’s Certified Copy; Werner Herzog’s Cave of Forgotten Dreams; David France’s Oscar-nominated documentary How to Survive a Plague; Michael Winterbottom’s The Trip series; Jennifer Kent’s The Babadook and second feature The Nightingale; Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardennes’ Oscar-nominated Two Days, One Night; Olivier Assayas’ Personal Shopper; Clouds of Sils MariaNon- Fiction; Hirokazu Kore-Eda’s The Truth; as well as Christian Petzold’s Phoenix and his upcoming Undine.

Variety first had the news about Bocco.
