Gong Yoo spends most of Train to Busan wearing other people’s blood, and that version of him is about to get a box of his own. Train to Busan: 10th Anniversary Remastered & Revived lands on a 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray box set on December 15 from Well Go USA Entertainment, with a DVD edition arriving the same day.

The announced contents go well past a new transfer. The 4K disc and the Blu-ray each carry two audio commentaries, one with director Yeon Sang-ho and his cast and one with Yeon and his crew, and the 4K disc carries a Dolby Atmos track alongside DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1. A separate bonus disc holds a 28-minute Yeon interview moderated by Katie Rife, a making-of, archival behind-the-scenes material, and four trailers: this year’s US trailer, the original 2016 US trailer, the international trailer and the teaser.

The DVD Carries Its Own Extras

The DVD is not a bare-bones edition. It carries both commentaries, the same 28-minute interview, a 13-minute behind-the-scenes featurette, a five-minute piece called “That’s A Wrap,” and the same four trailers. English and Spanish language options are listed across every format. The box set lists at $79.98 and the DVD at $24.98, with preorders opening November 10.

Yeon Sang-ho Never Left the Zombies Alone

The film went back into American theaters in August for its tenth anniversary. Yeon has stayed in the same territory in the decade since, making the animated prequel Seoul Station, the 2020 sequel Peninsula, and Colony, which played its Canadian premiere at Fantasia this summer. The Colony trailer arrived in April.

Train to Busan has aged better than almost everything it was compared to in 2016, and the reason is structural. Yeon keeps pushing his survivors forward through carriages, so the film never has to invent an excuse for the next fight, and the geography does the work that exposition does in weaker zombie movies. A set built around two commentary tracks is the right shape for a film whose best decisions are decisions about space.
