Sad news this afternoon: Dread has learned that C.W. Morgan (pictured above in Scream), the actor who played the father of Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich) in Scream, has passed away.

The report comes from TMZ, who claim to have discovered the actor’s passing on August 30th in Los Angeles through medical examiner records.

The outlet notes that an LAPD spokesperson said that Morgan’s death was by natural causes.

Morgan was 72.

In Scream, Morgan plays Hank Loomis, the father of the film’s killer, Billy. Towards the end of the film, we learn he had an affair with Sidney Prescott’s mother, Maureen Prescott. Billy blames that affair for his parents’ divorce, leading to his murderous rampage.

Though he only has a short amount of screen time, Morgan made an impression, giving us a good taste of the stern man who oversees his son’s life. Morgan also briefly appeared in Scream 3.

Our hearts go out to Morgan’s friends and family.
