Mike Flanagan‘s Carrie series, based on Stephen King’s novel of the same name, is now on Prime Video. In it, Flanagan regular Samantha Sloyan (pictured above in the series) plays Margaret White, the title character’s incredibly strict mother. The role marks the seventh time that the actor has worked with the iconic filmmaker. But it’s her next project with the director that we need to talk about.

While speaking with Deadline, Sloyan was asked about Flanagan’s The Exorcist: Martyrs. What she said has me foaming at the mouth: “I have a small role in The Exorcist. … I have a very tiny footprint in that one, but I did get to go and see some stuff. All I’ve seen is what I watched through the monitor that day. But, it’s stunningly beautiful. And, for me personally, I think from what little I saw, it’s the scariest thing that I’ve seen him do. So, I’m very excited. I’m excited as everybody else is to see it.“

We got our first look at a teaser for Martyrs yesterday, with a full trailer coming tomorrow. Though we saw only a few seconds of the film, I’m already inclined to believe that Flanagan is about to scare the shit out of us.

Martyrs looks to combine elements of both the original film and Exorcist III (with a bit of Se7en mixed in).

Scarlet Johansson plays NYPD homicide detective Julie Miller, who apprehends a serial killer known as Father Sunday, played by John Leguizamo. She witnesses his execution, but things don’t go according to plan.

The Exorcist: Martyrs

Sasha Calle (The Flash) plays a fellow detective, while Jacobi Jupe (Hamnet) plays Johansson’s 12-year-old son. Chiwetel Ejiofor (Backrooms) and Laurence Fishburne (Event Horizon) play priests drawn into the story.

Flanagan writes, directs, and produces the film, which Universal will release in theaters on March 12, 2027, as we announced.

Keep in mind, Sloyan has worked on quite a few frightening projects with Flanagan. The Haunting of Hill House…Midnight Mass…The Fall of the House of Usher. All are bristling with sinister atmosphere and shocking scares. If Martyrs really did scare her more than any of those, then, my friends, we are in for one hell of a treat.

Here’s that fucking terrifying teaser. Expect the trailer tomorrow to give us the chills. I’m already counting down to March 2027.
