Freddy Krueger has a neighborhood now. Fortnite added a point of interest called Nightmare Neighborhood for this year’s Fortnitemares, an Elm Street in everything but the street sign, and dropped Freddy into it as a boss.
The skin went live in the item shop Friday at 8 p.m. ET. Fortnitemares itself started October 1 and runs through November 1, and Fortnite put a teaser up on its own Instagram account ahead of the drop.
Nightmare Neighborhood Has a Boss in It
Freddy does not wait in a boss room. He turns up somewhere in the neighborhood while you are working through it, and when he triggers Nightmare Mode he can teleport, morph into a copy of your own skin, and open you up with the glove. Ranged weapons and headshots are the counter, and he is not a hard fight. Beat him and the glove drops, which lets whoever picks it up slash and teleport the same way. A 1-Up Token comes with it.
Morphing into a copy of the player he is hunting is the most Freddy thing in the whole collaboration, and a sharper read of the character than the 2010 remake managed. The glove is called Freddy’s Nightmare, and carrying it makes you the Springwood Slasher, which is a deeper cut than a battle royale crossover usually bothers with.
The Englund Question
Robert Englund played Freddy in eight films, from the 1984 original through Freddy vs Jason, sitting out only the 2010 remake, and hosted the Freddy’s Nightmares anthology series in between. Whether he recorded anything here is unsettled. The claim that he fully voices the Fortnite Freddy traces back to a single leak account on X, and Epic has credited no performer. Until Epic does, treat it as unconfirmed.
The Rest of the Fortnitemares Guest List
Freddy is the headliner, not the whole bill. Five Nights at Freddy’s landed October 1, and Slender Man, The Purge, Beetlejuice, Predator: Badlands, Hazbin Hotel and Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights are all in the lineup, along with Obsession. The Fortnitemares gameplay trailer runs through the lot of them.
Nightmare Neighborhood comes down with the event on November 1. Freddy has not had a film since 2010, which makes a month of being the most dangerous thing on a Fortnite map the most anyone has done with him in sixteen years.
