SEGA plans to evolve classic Sonic alongside modern games

Sonic series executive producer Takashi Iizuka has participated in an interview with Invenglobal during which he stated that the company is in the process of evolving classic Sonic games as well as modern Sonic games going forward. This ties in with recent comments from Iizuka during which he said “trying something new with Sonic can result in a completely unique game.”

“We consider 2D Sonic based on Classic Sonic, 3D-based Modern Sonic, and racing games as the three major pillars of the Sonic franchise. Right now, we aim to thoroughly satisfy the demand for racing games through ‘Sonic Racing’. Of course, we also plan to continue evolving both Classic Sonic and Modern Sonic going forward.”
