PlayStation Officially Unveils New Hardware And Pre-Order Details

With reports suggesting that the next generation of PlayStation consoles will launch as early as 2027, it is something of a bittersweet moment for fans. Whilst receiving the PlayStation 6 could usher in a new era of gaming, it is also worth remembering the changes that Sony wishes to make, with the main headline being the end of physical games.

Overall, the PlayStation 5 era has been tumultuous. During its launch back in 2020, potential customers had to deal with stock shortages and scalpers galore, not to mention the added difficulties that came with trying to purchase anything during the COVID-19 pandemic. On top of that, Sony has received criticism for the lack of PS5 exclusives over the past six years. However, this is set to change for the future of PlayStation after the announcement that exclusives would remain solely exclusive, as opposed to receiving PC ports not long after.

That being said, there is no denying that the PlayStation 5 era has also been home to some incredible releases, such as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, Rise of Ronin and many more. On top of that, it seems as though Sony is not yet downing tools when it comes to the PS5 as a brand-new piece of hardware has just been announced.

A brand-new DualSense controller is on the horizon and this time, Sony is splashing the color by introducing the “Icon Blue Special Edition DualSense controller.” Launching on 25 September, the brand-new piece of hardware will be available for pre-order from 27 August. However, if you are a PlayStation Plus member, you will gain access to the pre-order on 25 August.

Featuring a very blue color scheme consisting of two different shades, this one will be hard to lose, but if you are a lover of the color blue, then there is no denying that you will want to add this latest DualSense to your collection.

That being said, it seems as though Sony’s latest announcement has not gone down well with fans, with many of them still campaigning against the end of physical games. As such, over on the PlayStation UK Twitter/X account, unhappy fans took to the comments.

“Can I get a digital version? You hate physical, remember?,” one user asked. Another said, “It’s just disrespectful that you’ll sit here posting about a controller color, but won’t address discs.”

With others simply saying, “no disc, no buy”, it seems as though Sony has a lot to prove in the upcoming months leading to the launch of the PlayStation 6.
