As expected, Curry Barker‘s horror hit, Obsession, has become everyone’s, well, obsession. With audiences everywhere talking about it and the film killing it at the box office, spoofs of the movie are bound to happen. The latest comes from the wildly popular video game, Fortnite, which took to IG this morning to post a video dubbed Spritesession, spoofing the Monkey’s Paw story.
See, Fortnite has its own obsession currently going on. The game recently introduced sprites, cute little guys you can find on the island, extract, and add to your collection. Each one gives players a unique power. Some sprites are much rarer than others. The rarest, as far as I can tell, is the Zero Point Sprite. I’ve been playing since the introduction of the critters, and I still haven’t found one. Sad face.
In the video, we see footage from Barker’s Obsession. Rather than a One Wish Willow, star Michael Johnston makes his wish with a One Llama Luck (a play on the game’s Llama mascot). And, rather than wishing Nikki (Inde Navarrette) would love him, Johnston wishes for the love of, you guessed it, a Zero Point Sprite.
Navarrette is utterly perfect in the role, and I can’t imagine anyone else in the part. But I must say, the purple-eyed sprite sure delivers on the cute and creepy.
What’s also fun about the video is that it implies we may see characters from Obsession enter the game at some point. Fortnite is well known for its many crossovers, and with the popularity of the film, the move would make sense. If not soon, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Nikki and Bear enter the game during Fortnite’s annual Halloween event, Fortnitemares. Stay tuned.
