The Nintendo Switch 2 system features variable refresh rate when it is played in handheld mode, but sadly the feature is not yet working in docked mode. You may remember that Nintendo initially advertised VRR in docked mode on its system blurb, but pulled that specific feature from its listings. Now it has emerged that Nintendo could still be pursuing VRR in docked mode via a new job listing for a Senior Display Engineer with the applicant needing “knowledge of display technologies such as HDR and VRR.” Sony’s PlayStation 5 didn’t support VRR right off the bat and it took two years after launch for it to receive it. VRR only works on modern TV sets which have an HDMI 2.1 connection and these usually retail at the higher price bracket like the LG C4 and C5 etc.
