Production has begun on the curiously titled horror-comedy Youth Juice, reports Deadline.
Described as “a creepy satire about aging and how far people will go to stop getting older,” the film “follows two best friends terrified of growing old who travel to Palm Springs to reclaim their vitality.”
Something tells me things go terribly wrong on that trip. Just a guess.
Gideon Adlon (“Euphoria”), Luna Blaise (Jurassic World), Simon Rex (Scary Movie 3) and Jay Hernandez (Hostel) star.
Two of the scribes behind Netflix’s smash hit, KPop Demon Hunters, Danya Jimenez and Hannah McMechan, wrote the script.
Said Jimenez and McMechan, “We wrote this during the pandemic, when we were both approaching 25, wasting away our youth indoors, going from miss to ma’am. At the time, it felt like a horror movie.”
The two clearly tapped into something that both young and old were craving with KPop Demon Hunters, as the Oscar-winning film became one of Netflix’s best success stories. Can they recapture that with Youth Juice? We’ll see.
Veronica Rodriguez (The Slumber Party) is directing the film.
Rodriguez says the project is “a film that’s both entertaining and unsettling, about the strange things people do to feel young.”
Producers are Rodriguez, Jimenez and McMechan, with Jorge Garcia Castro for Altered.LA. Producing alongside them are Pete Corona for Ruta Media, Will Russell-Shapiro, Stella Bulochnikov, Robin Rapino and Pat Lambert for Live Nation Studios, and Chris Abernathy and Eric B. Fleischman for The Wonder Company. Executive producers are Ryan Kroft and Michael Rapino.
