Marvel unveils the definitive version of Wolverine‘s most underrated costume. Logan’s most famous comic book costumes balance unapologetically bright colors with his aggressive edge. Wolverine’s 1974 debut in The Incredible Hulk #180 introduced the classic yellow-and-blue scheme, and his iconic winged cowl. In 1980’s The Uncanny X-Men #139, legendary creator John Byrne introduced the beloved brown-and-tan suit, and in the 2000s, the Ultimate Universe comics made Wolverine synonymous with leather-heavy civilian outfits.

Beyond his mainstream wardrobe, Wolverine has an array of underrated costumes that reflect highly specific, dark periods of his long history. Logan’s Team X uniform replaces his superhero flair with a utilitarian mercenary suit equipped with tactical straps and combat gear from his Cold War black-ops days. During a brief period where he lost his healing factor, Wolverine adopts the sleek yet heavily armored ablation armor, and in the alternate-reality Age of Apocalypse, Logan infamously wears a dark blue-and-red bodysuit with red tattoos on his face and a metal cap over his severed left wrist.

Logan thrives just as easily in high-tech armor or dystopian survival gear as it does in classic spandex, and so does his successor, Laura Kinney.

Laura Kinney Finally Wears Her Own Version Of Wolverine’s Patch Costume

Laura Kinney attends yet another Hellfire Gala this year. This time, she eschews her Wolverine costume in favor of her own spin on Wolverine’s Patch suit. The classic white shirt and white blazer, black pants, and iconic black eyepatch suit the Hellfire Gala’s high-fashion requirements perfectly, and Laura updates the look with the addition of white gloves and black dress shoes with high heels that provide a dramatic contrast with her feet claws. Laura Kinney’s Patch redesign is limited to Juan Frigeri’s Hellfire Costume Swap variant cover for Generation X-23 #6, but it marks a drastic departure for Laura’s wardrobe.

Wolverine Officially Debuts New Name And Costume For Major New X-Men Event

Wolverine officially unveils a new identity and costume for the X-Men’s biggest 2026 crossover event, featuring an unexpected murder mystery.

Logan’s Patch persona is the subversion of his typical feral archetype. Originally introduced during his late-1980s solo adventures in Madripoor, Patch trades Wolverine’s yellow spandex for a sharp white tuxedo jacket, a slicked-back hairstyle, and a deceptively simple eye patch. Despite its drastic departure from Wolverine’s animalistic identity, Patch has enjoyed multiple revivals across modern media. Wolverine often returns to Marvel’s criminal underbelly in the comics, and other mediums occasionally pay him homage. For example, Marvel Rivals added Patch as a skin for Wolverine, and Hugh Jackman briefly wears the Patch suit in Deadpool & Wolverine‘s multiversal montage sequence.

Wolverine’s Patch Identity Proves Laura Kinney Has A Lot Of Room To Grow Beyond Wolverine

Laura’s Endgame Shouldn’t Be Wolverine

Patch’s enduring popularity shows how Laura Kinney can expand her own legacy far beyond the shadow of her predecessor. Laura has repeatedly proved herself worthy of the title of Wolverine, and she has worn the classic colors both solo and in teams like the New Avengers. However, Logan’s superhero identity has never been a monolithic concept. He has reinvented his methods, his wardrobe, and his social circles to suit different corners of the world, perhaps more often than any other major X-Man. Laura possesses the same potential for self-reinvention.

Laura Kinney has already demonstrated her willingness to reinvent herself during the Age of Revelation era. In this dark chapter for mutantkind, Laura completely breaks away from the Wolverine moniker to adopt the mantle and costume of Logan’s greatest nemesis, Sabretooth. Instead of succumbing to the bloodlust associated with Victor Creed’s criminal alias, Laura wears the villain’s costume while protecting and guiding innocent mutants. Moving forward, Laura has a massive world of experimentation available to her, a journey that could naturally begin with her own customized spin on the Patch persona.
