Grand Theft Auto VI is finally set to hit virtual (and real) shelves in November, as millions of fans wait in the wings to find out exactly what Rockstar has been cooking up. Whether it hits the heights they’re hoping for remains to be seen, but one thing we do know is that it’s going to be a game of enormous ambition and scope.
That comes with certain practical considerations, not least in working out exactly how big the file size of the game is going to be. That conversation has now reached the community in a big way, and it’s safe to say that fans are planning to accommodate the release of GTA VI, regardless of how big it ends up being.
Over on Reddit, fans have been sharing posts asking the community exactly how big they think the game is going to be, and whether they’re willing to delete everything in their existing libraries to get it launched. Though there is some debate, it’s safe to say that fans are willing to do pretty much anything to play it.
“I don’t know but I’m prepared to erase everything for it,” one comment simply surmised.
“GTA is like 120 GB now after 12 years, RDR2 is like 150 GB now, so I’d assume GTA VI will be somewhere around 200 GB at the start, then probably go upwards of 300 GB after a couple of years. But it’s funny because Call of Duty games are damn near 250+ and they aren’t free roam, so Rockstar will definitely take advantage of the console and make the big GB amount worth it,” another predicted.
“I have 1 TB of space and I’m prepared to use it all! 150 GB though,” a third said.
Another used some real world evidence to put forward their prediction, saying, “Around 120-160. No less than Cyberpunk, no more than CoD? GTA V is only that large due to having over a decade of online updates and DLCs. If you remove the ones not used in story mode with OpenIV (with the exception of the ones that break the game if removed), it goes down to around 65 GB. Not to mention it was initially developed for the PS3, where it’s around 17 GB.”
Whatever the file size does end up being, it’s a fairly safe bet that very few people will forego installing and playing the game purely due to size limitations. Let’s just hope that GTA VI does enough to justify its major file size and we should all be pretty happy when November rolls around.
