Details on Pikmin 4 are surprisingly light despite the game launching on the Nintendo Switch family of systems in July. Nintendo has recently sent out a survey to a select number of people asking them their thoughts on the long-running series and the survey mentions “delving into puzzle-filled caves, and carefully managing your resources until you escape” plus “embarking on night-time missions that feature new and intense gameplay”. This all ties into the Reddit leak, presumably by a playtester, who mentioned that this was one of the core concepts in Pikmin 4 and also provided an in-game photo. Here’s. recap of what the play tester said on Reddit in April 2023.

“The four captains will be named after dog breeds. Just like the last mainline Pikmin game, these captains will have their own naming scheme. However instead of code words like Alpha, Charlie, Brittany, and Delta. These new captains will be named after dog breeds with the main character (Pink-haired Captain) being named Pom after the pomeranian dog breed. Names aren’t too exciting I know… However! I know something about the gameplay mechanic of night mode. However, I plan to share those things later!

OH! Also, I was asked if the Orange one-eyed Pikmin leak is real, and no… There is another new Pikmin type in this game but its not orange

(later) To explain what night mode is like I’ll first have to explain what the main game is like… The main game (daytime and caves) will be played by “Pom” (the pink-haired captain). The other three captains will be playable but only at night. Their gameplay will be more in line with Pikmin 3 challenge mode where you control 3 captains at once. The goal of night-time mode is to collect as many “shooting stars” (Konpeito) as possible before time runs out (which is around 5 minutes).”
