There are some games that need no introduction, and after reaching iconic status since the first release way back in 1985, Ghosts ‘N Goblins is one such game. After wowing the gaming audiences for decades since, it’s now time to reboot the legendary series as Ghosts ‘N Goblins Resurrection begins to raise the dead on Xbox, PlayStation and PC.

Available to purchase and download right now, Ghost ‘N Goblins Resurrection places players in the boots of Arthur, the brave knight looking to battle his way through horrific lands in order to save his princess from the evil Demon Lord.

The setup is pretty much as you would expect from any Ghosts ‘N Goblins experience, yet it is with Resurrection where we are seeing the series powered by some of the most powerful machines ever created. Whilst not optimised for the next-gen – and honestly, that’s a little disappointing – the release of Ghosts ‘N Goblins Resurrection on Xbox One, PS4 and PC, with full Back-Compat playability through Xbox Series X|S, is certainly one to admire.

The Demon Realm is a place of challenge as you and Arthur work through the storybook like visuals and nail the platforming elements on display like never before. As an experience, you’ll not be far from the mark should you consider what it was like to play the original Ghosts ‘n Goblins and Ghouls ‘n Ghosts from back in the day as the franchise springs into action in the modern era.

Playable either alone or through a local two-player cooperative mode where the second player takes on the role of Barry, who creates barriers for protection; Kerry, who carries Arthur through danger; or Archie, who creates bridges to cross, there should be much to love about this reboot. Especially when that second player is not limited in their actions either – they’ll be able to switch between characters on the fly depending on the help Arthur requires.

There are other options available too. Three difficulty levels – Squire, Knight and Legend – are all in place, whilst a special Page mode brings forth the ability to continuously respawn with unlimited lives. There’s also the mystical Umbral Tree which will let you and Arthur work with a variety of magical spells and skills – something which will be needed as you move through the Demon Realm ahead.

If you’re feeling a little nostalgic and need a fix of Ghosts ‘N Goblins then we reckon Resurrection will cover pretty much all requirements. Should you agree and reckon it’s time for those palms to get sweaty once more, get yourself over to the store of your choosing. You’ll find it priced at £24.99 from the Xbox Store for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, whilst downloads can also be grabbed from the PlayStation Store and for PC through Steam. You’ll also find the game available on Nintendo Switch.

Keep an eye out for our full review of Ghosts ‘N Goblins Resurrection on Xbox soon. Or if you just want to take in the game that inspired this reboot, consider checking out the retro goodies available in the Capcom Arcade Stadium – Ghosts ‘n Goblins is playable in there too.

Game Description:

Watch as this nostalgic yet completely reimagined storybook world unravels before your very eyes. Taking cues from both Ghosts ‘n Goblins and Ghouls ‘n Ghosts and giving birth to something entirely new, Resurrection is a title worthy of its name. Don’t be fooled—this picturesque storybook world, while gorgeous, is a love-letter to the original titles and maintains the same punishing gameplay that fans have come to expect. So go on and test your mettle, for the gauntlet has been thrown!
