Black Ops Cold War Season 3 has officially launched. With it came a handful of new editions along with a few blasts from the past. Players can now get their hands on the Ballistics Knife, a special weapon that’s been a staple of every Black Ops game since the original title. Stab rival players with the sharp blade, or pull the trigger to shoot the knife at enemies out of range. The best part about the Ballistic Knife is, like the Tomohawk, it can be picked back up. So, how do players unlock the Ballistic Knife?

Cold War Zombies: How to Unlock the Ballistic Knife in Zombie Mode

Black Ops Clod War Sledgehammer

The multiplayer unlock challenge for the Ballistic Knife is borderline impossible, especially in competitive Black Ops: Cold War games. Players must get a One Shot, One Kill medal, and a melee kill in one life in 15 different games. Sure, the Ballistic Knife is a classic, but does the challenge need to be that hard? Thankfully, players have an alternative means of unlocking the Ballistic Knife in Zombie Mode.

To unlock the Ballistic Knife in Zombie Mode, players must get 300 kills with a special or melee weapon of Epic or Legendary tier. This challenge is considerably easier and can be done in one or two games of Outbreak Zombies. Here’s what players will need to do.

For the best results, players should equip a melee weapon to their custom loadout and focus on increasing its tier at the upgrade mannequin. They’ll need to amass 1,500 Salvage (green) and 500 Rare Salvage (blue) to make their custom melee weapon Epic. Alternatively, players can wait for such a weapon to drop after killing Megatons and Krasney Soldats. They can also focus on completing Eliminate the HVT side missions. It’s not guaranteed, but it can happen. Legendary melee weapons, when Pack-a-Punch, will put out serious damage against even the strongest of zombies.

Outbreak Mode is best for getting these challenges completed as players can milk the easy rounds for all the crafting materials they need. Round-based games like Firebase Z will get too chaotic to focus on unlocking weapons. Furthermore, there are far fewer chances for weapon drops outside of hitting the mystery box over and over again.

While attempting to unlock the Ballistic Knife in Cold War Zombies, players can also make progress towards unlocking the Crossbow as long as they’re using a double-Pack-A-Punch special weapon like the M79. To unlock the Crossbow in Cold War Zombies, players must kill 50 special enemies with a double-Pack-A-Punched or better.
