Marvel President, Kevin Feige, recently commented on the possibility of introducing the Young Avengers characters throughout phase 4 of the MCU. As of now, there has not been a show or movie announced featuring the group of teen superheroes. However, it is easy to see how Phase 4 could be building towards that very thing. During San Diego Comic-Con 2019, Feige laid out his plans for the MCU. Black Widow would start the next phase, followed by the Disney+ shows expanding the universe with a slate of original shows. Due to the ongoing pandemic, however, Black Widow has now been delayed multiple times, which has led to WandaVision starting out Phase 4. Despite this, much of the roadmap that Feige initially planned out has been unchanged. Audiences still have The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Hawkeye, Ms. Marvel, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness all coming out over the next 2 years.

Many have noticed how there are several new key characters being introduced in these upcoming projects. If these characters were to be “assembled,” they could form the superhero group known as the Young Avengers. These characters include Wiccan and Speed, Wanda’s kids from WandaVision. Their fates were left uncertain by the end of the show after they disappeared once Wanda took down the sitcom world she had created. However, it is assumed that they may return when, during the post-credit scene, we hear them yelling out for Wanda. Another Young Avenger being introduced is Kate Bishop, played by Hailee Steinfeld, in the Marvel show, Hawkeye. Additionally, Kamala Khan, played by Iman Vellani, is another Young Avenger soon to be introduced in the show, Ms. Marvel. Actress Kathryn Newton plays a grown-up version of Cassie Lang in the upcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania movie, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will be introducing the character Miss America, played by Xochitl Gomez.

When Feige was asked by Entertainment Weekly if he was planning anything for these characters or plotting a future Young Avengers movie, it became clear that he essentially isn’t letting anyone know his plans beyond what he has already announced. Read Feige’s response below:

Yes, you can certainly see that Phase 4 is introducing all sorts of new types of characters with the potential being endless… I’m happy to say everybody that’s here, certainly where I’m sitting now, is doing amazing work and [I] can’t wait to show them the world.

However, that will not stop people from speculating what a potential Young Avengers show or movie would look like and how it would affect the MCU. In the comics, the team was founded because Vision thought it would be a good idea to have a back-up Avengers in the case the original Avengers disbanded. The newspapers referred to the young superheroes as “super-powered fanboys”. In one comic, a few members of the Young Avengers are captured by S.H.I.E.L.D., forcing Captain America and the Falcon to help them escape. They then go on to join a resistance group known as the Secret Avengers.

Marvel could potentially do almost anything with these characters. Nevertheless, if Feige were to form the Young Avengers, then that would fill the MCU with two major superhero groups. Not only that, but the Young Avengers could be around in the MCU for a long time as audiences watch them grow up. Anyway, it will be interesting to see where Phase 4 takes the Marvel Universe from here.
