The latest Call of Duty has an aim assist issue that is taking control away from players.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War appears to have an aim assist issue on console which hinders the player’s ability to stay on target, rather than, well, assist.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has had a rough go of it since it landed last week. The game has seen several issues, from the current grind demands to the game turning off PlayStation controllers. It’s even the most common culprit of the infamous ‘Queued to Download’ bug.

However, there is another issue that has the community up in arms. Some players on console have been complaining that aiming weapons feels weird. It turns out, that’s due to the game’s aggressive aim assist. On a controller, the game will sometimes fight against the player to track an enemy.

This issue was demonstrated by YouTuber TheXclusiveAce, who showed off how strong it is. In the video, the assist will begin taking over very early, preempting an enemy walking into a player’s sights.

This issue goes beyond helping players too much though. It appears to be so strong that it’s actively fighting against player intention at times. In one example, the assist begins moving in the opposite direction that TheXclusiveAce is aiming. You can watch the video here:

The YouTuber posted a follow-up to his video saying that Treyarch reached out saying it’s working to find out what the problem is:

“Treyarch has reached out to me about this topic and apparently the aim assist values (aside from ranges) haven’t changed for Cold War. Having said this, they are taking the aiming issues that the community has been experiencing very seriously and they’re working hard to track down the root(s) of the issues.”

One of the most upvoted posts on the game’s Reddit this week also talked about issues with the aim assist. It’s clear this is a widespread problem.

Treyarch is aware of this issue, at least, which could indicate that it’s a bug rather than a design choice. However, until that is resolved, it seems players will have to deal with the issues for now.
