Captain Marvel’s Infinity War Beeper Prop Has SWORD Connections

Captain Marvel’s (Brie Larson) beeper seen during Avengers: Infinity War‘s post-credits scene features a hidden detail connecting to SWORD. The new organization that Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) is managing debuted in Spider-Man: Far From Home‘s stinger. As it turned out, the former SHIELD director asked Talos (Ben Mendelsohn), who’s a Skrull, to disguise as himself and help with Peter Parker’s issues. Given this new information, however, it appears as if Marvel Studios was already planting clues to the existence of the group before its presence was confirmed.

After the devastating end of Infinity War where Thanos (Josh Brolin) successfully collected all six Infinity Stones and snapped half of life in the universe, Fury sent a distress call to Carol Danvers just before he disintegrated himself. As revealed subsequently in Captain Marvel, the archaic device was given to Fury by Danvers during their initial encounter in 1995 and just before she went off-Earth to help the Skrulls find a new home planet. It’s unclear where the beeper is now following the events of Avengers: Endgame, but given this new detail, there’s a good chance it will pop back in the MCU in the future.

Shared on Reddit by JohannSchmidt1943 is an image of the unpainted prototype prop of Captain Marvel’s Infinity War beeper. While it’s unfinished, it’s most interesting detail is on the back as it’s labeled “Sentient World Observation and Response Department” or SWORD, as well as, the logo for the organization. The item is currently being auctioned on eBay for $2,499. Check out the said photo below:

The last time fans saw the beeper, it was being examined at the Avengers HQ as the heroes mulled over who Fury may have contacted before he turned to dust. Immediately after, Captain Marvel showed up, explaining her involvement with Fury. From there, the pager was never shown on-screen anymore. Chances are that it remained in the Avengers compound, but with the facility destroyed during the final battle in Endgame, it’s curious if it was retrieved in the rubble or not. In any case, given its confirmed connection to SWORD which will be a prominent organization in the MCU moving forward, it’s safe to say that this detail will ultimately play into the upcoming narrative Marvel Studios is building. As it is, SWORD is already confirmed to be involved in WandaVision.

SWORD’s logo at the back of Captain Marvel’s beeper poses a string of questions, including whether or not Danvers already has an idea of Fury’s new project. Considering her connections to Talos and the Skrulls, this is not outside the realm of possibility. Otherwise, this may also not be the case since Fury did upgrade the original pager Danvers gave him, which means that she may be unaware of everything he did after they parted in Captain Marvel. As instructed, Fury only used the gadget when he’s in a really dire situation like what happened in Avengers: Infinity War. Whatever the case may be, it’s safe to assume that Captain Marvel will ultimately be connected to SWORD. Aside from the aforementioned links, it’s worth noting that adult Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Paris), who Danvers met when she was a young girl in Captain Marvel, is working in the organization.
