Henry Cavill isn’t done playing Superman – if he has anything to say about it. The 36-year-old actor has spoken out, saying he has unfinished business with the Man of Steel role – despite saying that Justice League “didn’t work.” When asked about rumors and reports that Cavill’s time as Superman is over, Cavill pushed back.

“I’m not just going to sit quietly in the dark as all this stuff is going on. I’ve not given up the role,” Cavill told Men’s Health. “There’s a lot I have to give for Superman yet. A lot of storytelling to do. A lot of real, true depths to the honesty of the character I want to get into. I want to reflect the comic books. That’s important to me. There’s a lot of justice to be done for Superman. The status is: You’ll see.”

In September 2018, The Hollywood Reporter cited an unnamed source working at Warner Bros. who said that Cavill would not be reprising his role as Superman.

“The cape is in the closet,” Cavill told Men’s Health, echoing a comment his agent made in September 2018 when Cavill’s exit was reported. “It’s still mine.”

The entire Men’s Health interview with Cavill is built upon the question of if the actor’s tenure as Warner Bros.’s cinematic Superman is over, with Cavill giving a platform to give his final answer.

In 2017, the L.A. Times reported that Cavill was contracted to play Superman on one more occasion for Warner Bros. after Justice League.

Cavill previously confirmed he had hoped to reprise his role as Superman in Shazam!, but scheduling conflicts with Mission: Impossible – Fallout precluded him from participating, leading to Zachary Levi’s stunt double Ryan Handley standing in as Superman for the film’s post-credits scene.
