Following last month’s reveal of their psychological horror game Dread Neighbor, developer Ghostcase has released a demo for the game on Steam. Presented entirely in first-person, the demo introduces players to the gradual shift from the mundane to the unsettling, allowing the tension to accumulate quietly and persistently.

With core concept design by renowned Chinese horror creator Dajisi, Dread Neighbor places players in an unnervingly quiet old apartment building. As a young woman trying to save money, the building has a strange tension about it. Your daily routine—taking out the trash, feeding your cat, commuting to work—seems ordinary, but something sinister quietly seeps into your life.

At first, it’s nothing more than a feeling: Someone is watching you. Whether through the crack of the wardrobe, the darkness beneath the bed, or the hole in the wall where something unseen lurks—this persistent gaze slowly warps your reality.

Dread Neighbor takes a cue from P.T.-style progressive horror loops, allowing scenes and events to shift based on the player’s actions. Every instance of “being watched” becomes more chilling than your previous encounter. Whether it’s the liquid dripping from the ceiling, the eyes glinting through cracks in the wall, the increasingly strange phenomena aims to constantly push you to your psychological limits.
