Hasbro had a surprise hit earlier this year with their inaugural Marvel Legends Mini Comics series, including stand-out figures like ROM Spaceknight and Adam Warlock. And now, Hasbro is back at it again with a slew of highly-requested characters: Marvel Legends Mini Comics Wave 2 is now up for order, including Astonishing X-Men Beast, Silver Surfer, Rachel Summers (Phoenix II), Feral and more!

I think the highlight of this wave for most fans is going to be Astonishing Beast, bringing us one step closer to Joss Whedon’s Astonishing X-Men core lineup—just a new Kitty Pryde and Colossus to go (sorry, Armor). We don’t get 6” Beast figures from Hasbro all that often, so this is definitely going to catch a lot of eyes (and sales).

Hasbro is giving us the gift of two portraits here— neutral/calm and angry/open-mouthed—and both look really great. He has hands to let him slash or hold a book… this is just an awesome figure of Hank McCoy, loaded with new tooling. Don’t miss this one, X-Men fans.

That’s not all the joy Hasbro has for X-Men fans in this series, though! Feral and Phoenix II (Rachel Summers) are also finally arriving to (more or less) complete their respective teams, X-Force and Excalibur!

These have been a long, long time coming, with fervor growing for ML action figures for both of these since well before the pandemic.

Hasbro did a more modern Rachel Summers in her Marvel Girl look as part of the 2007 Brood Queen Series, but that figure is badly outdated now and wholly inadequate to display with the classic Excalibur lineup. The “Hound”/Phoenix II iteration is what fans have been demanding, and Hasbro made good on it here.

I’m glad we get both normal and “Hound” heads along with removable Phoenix fiery wings, alternate fists and her tiny Excalibur #1 faux cover. Team complete! Good job, Hasbro!

Feral is not exactly a fan favorite character in the X-Men fandom, but she is a necessary one to complete the original X-Force roster, so I’m glad Hasbro is getting to her at last. A reissue of the scarce Rictor/Domino/Cannonball 3-pack would also be swell!

Like last year’s X-Factor Wolfsbane, I think Marvel Legends Feral is a knockout of a figure that’s as good as can be. Feral’s lithe body, posable tail and double pin-less arms and legs are all exactly what I want. I’ll be glad to have her on my X-Force shelf.

Moving on to the greater Marvel Universe, we’ve got an updated Silver Surfer figure. This one is quite similar to the Galactus Haslab stretch goal bonus, but now with a better chrome paint job and pin-less body. Pins are very disruptive to the aesthetic on a figure like the Surfer, so this is a big upgrade to me, personally.Marvel Legends Silver Surfer comes with his surfboard (of course), plus 3 extra hands and a plastic chunk of Silver Surfer #1 cover. This is the first mass release Silver Surfer 6” figure in quite a few years, and I think this will be a hot seller for sure.

A variant I did not see coming is the original all-black “homemade” costume on this new Marvel Legends Daredevil figure. This is based off the legendary Frank Miller Daredevil: The Man Without Fear comic book series from 1993 (the faux cover accessory is from this series as well, obviously).

It’s heavily rumored we’ll get a red Daredevil Secret Wars Legends figure next year, so this is a nifty niche version of DD while we wait. His 3 swappable hands will be nice to have, but the best accessory is the Billy club that breaks in two pieces held together by fabric rope. A fun take on a rarely captured look.

If there’s a “dull” figure in this series, it’s the upgraded version of Black Widow (Natasha, not Yelena) in her fan-favorite grey costume. This is based on the iconic cover of Uncanny X-Men #268 from 1990, and is also the basis for one of the first truly great characters in the Marvel Puzzle Quest mobile game that I played religiously for years.

A previous figure of this costume was released as a Walmart exclusive, but we’re getting an updated version here with double-pin-free knees and elbows. I think the improved aesthetic here is nice and ameliorated the visual of the toy, but not a vital improvement for those who bought the Walmart release.Black Widow doesn’t get a second head (which is fine—this one matches the comic cover well), but she does get swappable fists and three pairs of Widow’s Sting/Bite bracelets (standard, smoking and blasting) to go with her mini Uncanny X-Men #268 cover accessory. This is probably the weakest entry in the wave, but still a solid pickup if you missed the exclusive one at Walmart.

Marvel Legends Mini Comics Wave 2 is now up for order, and is scheduled to arrive this winter. With the lineup Hasbro has picked for this set, I think it’s got a chance to be a real hit with comics fans.
