Hasbro is really going all-in and naking 2025 the unofficial year of Marvel Legends GamerVerse figures. Not only did we get a whole wave of Spider-Man 2 video game figures plus a giant Venom from the game, but now pre-orders for the long-rumored collection of (unofficial)“Marvel vs Capcom” Marvel Legends are launching as well, bringing us not only updates on Juggernaut, Psylocke and Venom—but Hasbro’s first ever Marvel Legends Shuma-Gorath (AKA Gargantos) figure is now up for pre-order as well!

I played a lot of the Capcom Marvel fighting games in arcades as a kid, and absolutely fell in love with Marvel vs Capcom 2 as a young adult when it released at home for the SEGA Dreamcast.

That video game was the first time I ever really connected with several Marvel characters, including Silver Samurai, Omega Red, Psylocke, Blackheart and most of all: Shuma Gorath. I loved that giant eyeball tentacle monster as a main on my teams, and dreamed of the day I’d have an awesome action figure of him on my shelf.

I’d be dreaming a long time and making do with a Heroclix version for years and then a LEGO Gargantos (there’s a copyright conflict for the name “Shuma-Gorath, which is why the name change), but finally the Lord of Chaos will be achieving Marvel Legends immortality this summer.

Given the reality of Gargantos being an eyeball-centered tentacle creature, it’s not a mystery why action figures of the character seemed out of reach for so, so many years: money. Shuma-Gorath requires a lot of unique tooling that’s not easily transferable to other characters, making him a very, very expensive obscure character to produce.

For that reason, I’m not horrified by the dramatic $69.99 MSRP on this monster. Because it was unquestionably going to be expensive to do this character justice. And really, I’d pay whatever to have this particular character done right.

And right is what Hasbro has done here. Looking at the images and video they’ve released, it’s crystal clear how much love and care the Hasbro Marvel Design Team spent making sure that the proportions, colors and flexibility possible on this Gargantos Legends figure are absolutely spot-on.

My only real gripe about this release is that we’re not getting a pink variant right away to match the memorable color scheme from the Capcom fighting games and (to an extent) Shuma-Gorath’s first appearance in the comics. Since there little other use for this tooling, I think there’s still a solid chance we get a pink Shuma-Gorath variant down the road, but I admit that I don’t love the uncertainty of that.

Along with his six bendy tentacles (assembly required), Marvel Legends Gargantos comes with one accessory: a spiked mini eyeball. This can’t be for his Mystic Stare attack because of the spikes, so I believe this must be a smaller representation of the Mystic Smash attack where Shuma-Gorath curls himself into a ball and launches at the opponent (a la Blanka from Street Fighter fame).

I don’t think this accessory is really sized ideally to represent the Mystic Smash special attack, but I’d rather have it as a fun extra than not.

The tentacles themselves look to have extreme amounts of flexibility, perfect for posing Gargantos wriggling around in various creepy positions. I haven’t had him in hand yet (obviously), but I’ve got very high hopes for these tentacles being the proper amounts of strong and sturdy.

Because of the size of this action figure and the assembly required, Marvel Legends Shuma-Gorath comes in a closed box with no window. That’s okay with me, as I really dig the pixel graphics art on the front of the packaging. It won’t be as fun for in-box collectors, though.

Marvel Legends Gargantos is up for order now and shipping out this fall. Amazon is sold out of pre-orders as of writing, but EE still has some reservations remaining. Given the niche status of this character and the engineering of the tentacles, I won’t be stunned if Hasbro limits the quantities of this demon produced for now.
