Last night, the Police frontman took to social media to share a statement announcing the cancellation of an awards show appearance and the postponement of several headlining concerts “on advisement from his doctor”.
The statement reads: “Due to illness, it is with sincere regret that Sting must cancel his appearance at the Bass Magazine Awards this Thursday and postpone his STING 3.0 concerts in Phoenix, AZ (originally scheduled for January 24) to June 1 and Wheatland, CA (originally scheduled for January 26) to May 28.”
Additionally, Sting’s appearance at the Cherrytree Music Company’s 20th anniversary has been postponed to May 29. As such, Sting has urged his fans in Phoenix and Wheatland to hold on to their purchased tickets for the rescheduled dates as their existing tickets will be honoured at the new dates.
The statement ends: “Sting sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience and extends his gratitude to the fans for their understanding.”
In a follow-up post, Sting address his ailment. He wrote, revealing that he is currently facing issues singing from a throat infection: “Thats so much for all the well wishes. I am steadily improving from a temporary throat infection which has prevented me from singing, though I’m looking forward to resuming my performances and rescheduled shows soon.”
It would appear that Sting’s upcoming performance at the FireAid benefit concert in Los Angeles on January 30 remains unaffected by the cancellations and postponements. The concert will raise funds for those affected by the Los Angeles wildfires earlier this year, and will include performances from the likes of Stevie Wonder, Stevie Nicks, Olivia Rodrigo, No Doubt and more.
In December, Sting announced details of two intimate shows set to take place in London later this year. The first will be held on Friday October 24, when the singer-songwriter takes to the O2 Forum in Kentish Town.
The second will be held two days later, when he heads over to the Eventim Apollo in Hammersmith on Sunday October 26. Tickets for both new shows are now on sale and are available here.
Back in September, Sting made headlines for his ‘3.0’ tour when he performed the rare track ‘I Burn For You’ live for the first time in 34 years during his stop in Ontario, Canada.
Before then, he also teamed up to perform with Philippe Petit as the latter recreated his iconic Twin Towers highwire stunt. The moment saw the 74-year-old French artist walk across a tightrope as Sting sat down below and performed his tracks ‘Fragile’ and ‘Field Of Gold’ while accompanied by a live orchestra.
