Rating: 5 out of 5.

“Dracula Is Dead!”

Dracula has fallen by the hand of Blade the vampire hunter! As Quincy Harker and his team move to inspect the corpse, an angry mob of townsfolk arrive to stop the monster from killing again. Or, so Frank Drake assumed. In moments, they would all learn the truth. Before their final battle, Dracula commands the local residents to attack the vampire hunters and defend their new master with their lives.

Elsewhere, the remnants of Doctor Sun’s Chinese gang members have spirited away the corpse of one of Dracula’s legions. The vampire body has become a curiosity to the underworld leader. His thugs have arrived at a secret laboratory hidden in the basement of an English manor home. There, a highly unethical scientist named Professor Morgo, has agreed to study the curse of vampirism.

Will the mindless villagers recover the body of Dracula before Blade can fully destroy it? Can Father Josiah Dawn bring faith back to his congregation? Has Professor Morgo unlocked the secret of eternal life, or will modern Chinese magic and science fail him?

Reviewer Notes

What an issue! Was Marv Wolfman the best writer on Marvel Comics’ Tomb of Dracula? I don’t know yet, but he certainly knows how to build drama. Wolfman’s dialog writing is unique as well. I would put it up there with Stan Lee’s “Stan Lee Isms”. For those looking for classic books that represent what Marvel Comics was in the 1970s, stop searching. The Tomb of Dracula is a perfect example of good wholesome fun.

With Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan working on this book, it reads like butter. Not today’s butter, but the high cholesterol stuff straight from the farmstead. Issue #14 gets five out of five stars from this reader!
