Microsoft is set to release several updates for Windows 11 in the early months of 2025, aka, ‘The Year of the Windows 11 PC Refresh’. These updates are based on Windows 11 beta channel release notes and are expected to roll out as an optional update in January and a mandatory update in February 2025, as reported by Windows Latest.
First, the Magnifier app will receive a button to reset zoom in one step, an option to restore zoom levels to previous preferences, and a new keyboard shortcut (Ctrl-Alt-Minus) for changing zoom levels. These changes will be available for both Windows 11 24H2 and 23H2 versions, the report said.
File Explorer users will get the ability to create new folders directly from the navigation pane’s context menu. There’s also the preservation of open tabs when restoring File Explorer windows after a system restart, as well as a smart tab control feature to optimize system resource usage.
Users will be able to configure tab restoration using the “Restore previous windows on logon” setting in File Explorer’s View options.
There’s more: a better file-sharing process with a new sub-context menu, and the restoration of a time zone change for non-administrative users.
Microsoft paused optional updates in December 2024 due to the holiday season. Hence, the January 2025 optional update is more substantial than usual.
