“–The Last Frankenstein!”

Dracula has been defeated, but the Frankenstein Monster stands grieving over the deceased body of Carmen the gypsy. Was she the monster’s one chance at true love and affection? It mattered not, for in the next few minutes, his emotions would turn from total remorse to savage anger. The last descendant of the Frankenstein bloodline has just made himself known inside the Transylvanian cave system, which housed Dracula’s crypt.

Vincent Von Frankenstein and his brutish servant had tracked the monster for weeks in an attempt to capture the scientific miracle. With the recent battle with a vampire lord, Victor’s creation was now in a weakened state. Would the monster have enough energy to defend himself against the man he swore to destroy and the giant Russian who stood next to him? The two hulks square off in the debris left over from the previous fight. The Frankenstein Monster will have to mourn another day.

“The Face In The Glass!”

The old man had given Boris Hann the mirror in exchange for sparing him his life. For what the jewel thief had seen the artifact do, it was well worth the exchange. Now Boris could look like anyone at any time. He just had to say the right words…

Reviewer Notes

The Frankenstein Monster may have met his match as Ivan, the giant Russian, steamrolls him like an infant! John Buscema knocks it out of the park with his Ivan character design. I love the art more than the storyline here, but Gary Friedrich’s writing is still solid for what he has to work with.

In addition to the main story, Editor Roy Thomas shoehorns a classic horror tale from the Marvel Golden Age library. John Forte heads up the art in that story. There is no mention of a writer for this one, but I’m assuming it’s Stan Lee as he was the editor during that time.

Overall, issue #10 of the Frankenstein Monster is a solid read. I give it three out of five stars. I’m just not sure how far they can take this series, as the monster is running out of adversaries. Maybe Ivan can team up and create a buddy cop series?
