EXCLUSIVE: Universal/Warner Bros’ Twisters has debuted as streamer Peacock‘s biggest Pay 1 film ever in its 14 days on the platform.

The previous biggest Peacock Pay 1 film debut in its first 14 days was Universal’s 7x Christopher Nolan directed Oscar winner, Oppenheimer.

The Lee Isaac Chung directed, Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones starring sequel to the Michael Crichton written 1996 blockbuster Twister dropped on Nov. 15, after a 120-theatrical day window to the service. Twisters opened on July 19 to a massive $81.1M at the domestic box office, 98% higher than the original movie’s $41M. At its opening, the sequel became the biggest box office debut for a natural diaster movie. Twisters finaled at $267.7M and $370.9M. Oppenheimer dropped on Peacock on Feb. 16 earlier this year, a seven-month window from its theatrical release.

Three of the top five best performing Pay 1 films on Peacock have premiered on the streamer in the past three months, including TwistersDespicable Me 4 and The Fall Guy: The Extended Cut

Twisters will remain on Peacock through March 14, 2025.

Blumhouse/Unviersal’s Five Nights at Freddy’s still remains Peacok’s biggest day and date premiere. That pic based on the videogame opened to $80M, a record box office start for a dynamic window title. At $291.4M worldwide, Freddy’s is also one of the top grossing theatrical day and date streaming titles ever; Warner Bros being a bigger practitioner of that distribution strategy during Covid. Peacock’s other notable Universal theatrical day-and-date feature titles include Halloween Kills, Halloween Ends and the Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson romantic comedy, Marry Me. Given that Freddy’s is day-and-date as opposed to Pay 1, the movie isn’t included in Peacock’s Pay 1 performance ranking.
