Nobody likes the ick associated with the creator of the Jeepers Creepers franchise, Victor Salva. But for some reason, the monster is a mainstay in the horror movie realm. Two sequels — one in 2003, the other in 2017 — with varying degrees of criticism were made by Salva, but the stigma surrounding his crimes caused some to boycott them.
With that in mind, no director would touch the franchise as long as Salva’s name was attached, that, and an ongoing legal battle left the Creeper dormant for many years.
Then in 2022, director Timo Vuorensola released a reboot called Jeepers Creepers Reborn written by Sean Michael Argo. It was an unmitigated flop and many saw it as a nail in the coffin of an already troubled series. But, we might be wrong.
The official Jeepers Creepers Instagram account published its first post in two years yesterday asking a strange question about their film: “Did it live up to your expectations, or did it fall short?”
Did we say “unmitigated flop”?
It’s a shame too, obviously, the Jeepers Creepers lore is very special to the filmmakers, and even though the film suffered from bad acting and a plot so bad it was kind of laughable, the effort that went into it shows profound dedication.
So what does this strange Instagram post mean? Is it a flex? Is it a sympathy post? Is it a plea for gratitude? Or maybe it’s a survey; one that will give the filmmakers an idea of whether or not they should have another crack at it.
It is unclear how the lawsuit affects the future of the franchise. The original studio behind Jeepers Creepers, Myriad Pictures, was allegedly unaware that Reborn was even being made. They sued Infinity Films Holdings, the producers of Reborn, and a verdict has yet to be made.
Perhaps the Instagram post is an indication that the lawsuit is coming to an end, and they are canvassing fans to see if the ruling is in their favor, they will make another film.
