Happy Halloween!
Break out your Blu-rays, or log into your favorite streaming service, and get ready to celebrate the night with a scary movie. If you really want to take it to the next level, pick one that actually takes place on Halloween. We are all familiar with the 1978 John Carpenter titular classic, but there are several others you might not know about.
Thankfully, we have compiled a list of some of the best available. From anthologies to slashers, there is surprisingly a lot to choose from. Whether you’re more of a traditional person, or like things off-beat, we have included it here.
For instance, Satan’s Little Helper isn’t exactly a blockbuster, but it gets the job done. It’s a kooky little film, but fun and bloody enough to vibe with the holiday.
Same with Hell House LLC. The found-footage cult classic takes itself a little more seriously than Satan’s Little Helper, but it packs a wallop, especially that final scene. You won’t forget it and it may even inspire you to watch the sequels.
On the higher end, the Guillermo del Toro-produced Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, based on the book by Alvin Schwartz, is an excellent mainstream pick. The special effects and costume designs are pretty great, and the PG-13 rating means it is the perfect family film for traumatizing your teenagers.
If you don’t have any of these films on standby already head over to JustWatch to see if they are either available to rent or own on digital. Unlike some of the people in the movies listed below, have a happy and safe Halloween!
