“Blade”

Peace and seclusion. For someone who had been possessed by the spirit of an ancient horror and then made the catalyst for global Armageddon, Eric Brooks, aka Blade, was about damn due. The nightmare event, now referred to as the Blood Hunt, had awoken humanity to threats their ancestors had taught them as myths and legends. Vampires and werewolves – the true rulers of the night, had hid themselves from mankind for a millennium, leaving those like Blade to hunt and destroy those that made themselves known.

The Lupui Island, Southeast Asia – Eric Brooks wanted nothing more to do with those seeking help battling dark things which fed off the living. He was done with it all. Those flashy heroes in their shiny towers could pick up the slack from now on. Blade had retreated to a small Lupuian fishing village, and that’s where he would end his days. No stress, no worries. That was until Damien the cultist arrived at his doorstep.

Can Blade make peace with the fact Varnae had possessed his mind and body, then forced him to slaughter innocent lives? What is the cult of the Spellguard? Who is the one called Pontious Van Helsing? Collect the series to find out!

Reviewer Notes

There is no rest for the wicked, as Blade is drawn into another supernatural mystery just months after the Blood Hunt event. Those pesky occultists and their vampire allies will never stop trying to gain power, even with a new Sorcerer Supreme guarding mankind. Or is he?

I’m not sure what to think about this new Red Band series. The art is excellent, the blood and guts are abundant, but do readers really need a new Blade series so quickly? I wasn’t really impressed by the storyline presented in Blade Volume 5. It was okay, but how many global disaster events does Marvel Comics plan to release back to back? It really is getting stale fast.

I guess we will have to wait and see, as this Red Band series continues to unfold. I’m giving this issue three out of five stars. If Bryan Hill could do a crossover event with Werewolf By Night: Red Band, that would be great. I’m not holding my breath for greatness here. I just hope they make this Blade series halfway interesting.
