“Valentine Bluffs Massacre – Part 03”

It’s a wrap! Filming on the newest horror film by Leggit productions is almost at an end, but the killing has just begun. As the actors and filming crew return to the surface world, not one, but two killers are stalking those who chose to remain behind in the infamous Hanniger Mines.

Elsewhere, in the jaded town of Valentine Bluffs, the police have found the eviscerated bodies of a store owner and a local homeless man. As the mayor, TJ Hanniger, and his high school friend, Sarah Palmer, race to the murder scene, they both discuss their past as two survivors of the 1980s Valentine’s Day massacre. There was a new killer, it was obvious. But, was this a copycat, or had Axel Palmer returned to finish his demented work?

What mysterious ties bring Leggit’s financer, Mr. Roberts, to the town of Valentine Bluffs? Will TJ and Sarah reconcile their broken relationship before the killer can end it permanently? Who will become the latest member of the Blackhearts Society? Collect the series to find out!

Reviewer Notes

As a fan of 1980s horror movies, I certainly am enjoying this callback to the classic Canadian-born slasher flick. The target demo for this comic book is razor-thin at the most. If you have picked this series up as an impulse buy, watch the original movie My Bloody Valentine before diving into Valentine Bluffs Massacre.

Even as a fan of the movie, I’m struggling to remember some of the characters mentioned here. The art is a bit different here. Andrea Arcari has a heavy Manga influence, it seems to me, anyway. I was a bit confused by some of the male characters, as they look similar in some of the scenes. I’m not bashing on the art, but it would help if writer S.A. Check used the character names more in the dialog, or Andrea drew the characters with more distinction.

Other than that, I can’t wait for the next installment. I give issue three of Valentine Bluffs Massacre a solid three out of five stars. Hopefully, American Mythology Productions brings us more classic 80s horror.
